Bounty Arts

A Brief History of Bounty Arts

Bounty Arts is a long established name in the nautical giftware industry.

Originally established over 20 years ago the idea for Bounty Arts was first conceived by Bruce and Mona Thorogood. Both keen sailors, they owned a 70ft yacht which they offered for charter. When the recession hit and Mona fell pregnant Bruce required an extra source of income and decided to see if there was a market for the smugglers' treasure maps he had designed since his youth. Based in Dartmouth he drove around the West Country offering them to the retail trade. He started selling them successfully and gradually added nautical themed ornaments, often designed by Mona, to his range. Bounty Arts was born. After a few years they were joined by sales manager Malcolm Wilton who helped to spread the word. Over the subsequent years the company further developed its nautical range and successfully grew until it achieved its status as one of the top suppliers of quality nautical giftware in the UK.

Bruce was ready for a change by 2003 and sold the business to the Hodgetts family and the business relocated to York. Bounty Arts then became known as Giftrite Bounty.

Under the most recent change of ownership in December 2007 Bounty Arts was taken over by Bournemouth based company SDL Imports Ltd. SDL Imports, established for over 50 years, already had a large range of nautical merchandise and the experience in the industry to take Bounty Arts forward into the twenty-first century.

Thus Bounty Arts has returned to the South Coast.
